Weekend Activities

Throughout the year we arrange several running, biking and swimming, (including open water) activities for juniors as well as taking part in local running and triathlon
events.

Triathlons:
We enter the club in several triathlons throughout the year giving our experienced athletes the opportunity to race against other juniors of similar abilities and age.

We also want to give every child the skills and confidence to take on new challenges and therefore we will support all juniors in taking part in these events to help them experience what we think is a fantastic sport for all.

There are events available for all abilities from elite to novice as well as family fun events where
parents and children can take part together!

Running
Park Runs: The Junior Striders regularly take part in park runs around the area. These are free
organised runs through Park Run UK, and we will quite often arrange meet ups at these
throughout the year.

Cross Country Races: During the Autumn and Winter, juniors can choose to take part in a
series of Cross-Country events organised though the Kent County Athletics Association. These
are primarily aimed at Secondary School Pupils with some athletics clubs also organising races
for under 11s.

To support the juniors, we also organise weekend cross country training runs, and these are
available to all juniors even if they are not taking part in the races.

Biking
Gravesend CycloPark: Throughout the year the club will host several weekend bike training sessions at the CycloPark in Gravesend allowing the juniors to further develop their biking skills and fitness all year round.

Open Water Swimming
All juniors’ members who are competent swimmers are provided with the opportunity of taking part in open water swimming at Leybourne Lakes.

After an initial induction session, where juniors need to demonstrate they can swim 400 meters non-stop, they will be able to take part in open water training sessions throughout the spring and summer months. This is a fantastic experience and life skill for all children, and we have yet to have a child who hasn’t enjoyed the fun of open water swimming.

The club will provide wetsuits and swim buoys for all juniors at the open water sessions.
