Sittingbourne Striders running and triathlon club
One of Kent's premier running and triathlon clubs for all age groups including our new junior section
As we head into the first weekend of October, let’s take a moment to reflect on the exceptional achievements of our group last weekend. The dedication and enthusiasm shown by everyone truly highlight the strength and spirit of our community.
Geoff showed incredible determination in the highlands of Scotland, taking on the undulating challenges of the Loch Ness Marathon. Despite knee pain and the amusing sight of being overtaken by a blue dinosaur, Geoff managed a sprint finish and completed the race in 4 hours and 26 minutes. Most importantly, Geoff enthusiastically recommends the experience to others—an outstanding endorsement!
Neil demonstrated remarkable endurance at the Berkeley Marathons. Facing the demanding course without signage, GPS, or aid stations and armed only with a paper map, Neil completed two loops for a total of 35.5 miles—a phenomenal achievement! He navigated the course with skill, avoided getting lost, and still made it back to coach both the juniors’ swimming and running sessions, as well as adult beginners and interval training. Neil’s commitment to the group is truly impressive.
Closer to home, Andy, Vanessa, Jane, Sally, Angela, and Ryan contributed their energy and encouragement at the Leybourne Lakes charity swim for CALM, bravely facing water temperatures of a chilly 15 degrees. Andy, Vanessa, and Sally each completed the 3-mile swim, a fantastic feat—especially considering two of them are over 71 years of age. Ryan, Angela, and Jane also demonstrated outstanding commitment, completing between 1 and 2.5 miles. The support and camaraderie among all participants and volunteers was inspiring and greatly appreciated.
We want to acknowledge not only those who took part but also everyone who supported, cheered, and encouraged their fellow members. Our community thrives because of the collective effort and inclusive spirit that everyone brings.
If you’re feeling inspired by these stories, we warmly invite you to come along and join in the fun. All levels are welcome, and every achievement is celebrated. Whether you’re new or experienced, making friends and keeping fit is at the heart of what we do. We’d love to hear about your next adventure—let’s continue to support one another and see what we can achieve together!
