Pentland Homes Canterbury 10 Mile Road Race

A great turnout on a not so cold January morning for the 1st race in the Sittingbourne Striders Club Championship Race Calendar – The Canterbury 10 mile road race.

Always a firm favourite and no exception this year with a massive 29 Striders setting off for the undulating route around the country lanes on the outskirts of Canterbury.

Great results for all who took part with special mentions to Scott Simpson who was 1st Strider home in a time of 1.04.34 placing him 61st in a field of 892 runners. 2nd Strider home was Nick Freeman in a time of 1.08.56 with a position of 104 overall. 1st Female Strider home was Laura Woods in a time of 1.14.16 placing her 203rd in the field.

Beachy Head Marathon & 10k

Sittingbourne Striders were out in force at the Beachy Head marathon on 23 October.

Club President Ron Smith completed his 30th Beachy Head marathon in a time of 6hr 23min 5sec, quite an achievement at the age of 81 – he is an inspiration to so many.

Other results included David Valenti being the first Strider home in a time of 3:42.40, placing him 66th overall out of a field of 1,560 runners.

Scott Simpson took second in a time of 4:01.21 for 159th overall and Bradley Clayton took an hour off his previous result at Beachy, crossing the line in 4:03.47 for 562nd overall.
